Newspapers
The successful launch of the
UK National Lottery in 1994 provided an opportunity to develop
a totally new concept - Lottery Syndicates. It is an exciting
way for a newspaper to harness the hype surrounding a National
Lottery game. A series of Lottery combinations are purchased
for a particular Lottery draw and a set of those numbers are
distributed to each reader, via a game card. If any of the
sets of numbers distributed are actually drawn out in the
Lottery show, those readers with that set of numbers will
share the actual prize money. On Saturday 14 December 1996, a
syndicate of 177 Daily Mirror readers shared 1,300,000, each
receiving a cheque for over 7,000.
